Better Lives – Islington Drugs and Alcohol Service – Self Referral

Better Lives offers free and confidential support for Islington residents affected by drug or alcohol problems, as well as their families and carers. The specialist team includes substance misuse practitioners, doctors, nurses, social workers, psychologists and pharmacists, as well as complementary therapists, volunteers and peer mentors who provide advice, assessment and treatment for drug and/or alcohol problems.

  • Family and carers’ support and advice
  • Group work and day programme
  • Substitute prescribing
  • BBV testing and treatment
  • Treatment in GP surgeries
  • Assessment and access to residential detoxification and rehabilitation
  • Debt and housing advice
  • Specialist women’s groups and support
  • Psychological therapy, counselling and group work
  • Self-help and mutual aid groups
  • Peer support
  • A health and wellbeing service for people using club drugs
  • Re-integration and aftercare – education, training and employment support

Inclusions

The service is free and open to all Islington residents aged 18 or over, as well as their families and carers.

How to Refer Self Referral

People can have an assessment on the day by attending open access drop-in sessions:

Better Lives at 99-101 Seven Sisters Rd

Monday: 10.30 – 13.00; 14.00-16.30; 17.00-19.00

Tuesday: 14.00-16.30

Wednesday: 10.30-13.00; 14.00-16.30

Thursday : 14.00-16.30

Friday: 10.30-13.00; 14.00-16.30

Better Lives at 309 Gray’s Inn Rd, London WC1X 8QS

Monday to Friday: 9.30 -11.30am

If these times are not convenient, people can self-refer by phone or email and a convenient assessment time will be arranged.  Alternatively, any professional or support worker can make the referral on someone’s behalf (with the consent of the person being referred).

Sessions are also available from a number of satellite locations and GP surgeries across the borough. For more information please contact the service.
